So sorry its been awhile since I updated the blog. So busy and so much has gone on. I left off when we were getting ready to adopt the boxer from PAWS Chicago.
Our day started off loading up in the car and on our way to Chicago.
We had to stop at some Starbucks since we don't have one where we live.
After our two hour car ride we finally arrive at PAWS Chicago.
PAWS Chicago is amazing!! It is so warm and comforting for both the animals and people. The animals really have it made there! Everyone there is so nice and friendly and you can tell that everyone there is for the animals. They have a TON of volunteers in there and it was busy! We got there right at 11:00 when they opened and it was already busy with people putting in applications and asking to look at dogs. We finally meet Ella (Duchess) and adopt her.
We get her in the car and she was such a trooper. She had quite the snot nose and kennel cough though.
Then we got home....
We bring her in the backyard and let her sniff around and have it so Abel and Pony can look out the window and see. After a few minutes we bring Abel out to meet her. Immediately Ella's defenses go up and Abel sensed that and a fight broke out. Abel goes inside and we bring Pony out. Ella again got her defenses up and a fight broke out. Pony went back inside and then she met Tinker. Tinker is a little different as Tinker backed down and Ella was okay with that. We eventually got it to where everyone for the most part could co-habitate. The minute one of my dogs made eye contact Ella would attack. Finally on Sunday Pony walked by her and made eye contact with her and Ella attacked and ripped Pony's ear open. My 5-year-old twins happened to be in the same room and it scared me. Scared me enough that we knew right then that Ella had to go back to PAWS. It tore me up inside because I really really wanted to give her a chance. For the safety of my kids and everyone else involved we knew that she needed to go back.
Monday morning we piled up in the car again to take Ella back. We talked to the adoption counselor and explained everything and they were grateful to have all of the information that they had on her so her next adopter would know what went on. I know in my heart that she will find a great home hopefully with a submissive dog or an only dog family.
I told my husband that I wouldn't look for another dog until I got back from Florida on the 1st of April and he agreed.
Last Tuesday Spay It Forward posted a status on their Facebook page stating that there were four female purebred American Bulldogs that needed to find homes immediately or they were going to be put down at 2:30. Then the scrambling ensued. I called CJ and told him and asked if we could take one. He agreed so I told Spay It Forward that we would take one so now three more needed homes. Two of the three ended up finding homes and the last one went into foster.
Introducing Gracie....
Gracie is a great little girl. Tinker and Gracie fell immediately in love.
Then something wonderful happened.....TINKER GOT ADOPTED!!!
Tinker's new mom is great! Tinker loved her! She would go to her new mom and give kisses and kept jumping up and giving her hugs then she would come back to me and sit on my lap. She is such an awesome dog! I'm very happy for Tinker and her new mommy! They will make the best of friends.
For now we are taking a couple week break from fostering. I'm leaving my husband, kids and dogs for 4 days and going with a group of girlfriends to Florida. For the next couple of weeks before I leave I'm going to work on potty training Gracie and spending time with family. Gracie has a little bit of a pee problem that we are working on. She urinates in her sleep and she drips urine when playing or simply just sitting or walking. She had a little bit of a UTI which she is on antibiotics for but it hasn't really helped the dripping problem. I'm getting ready to switch her food to a high quality grain but lower protein to see if that helps. She is a great little pup and is already a good addition to our family. With that I will leave you with a picture of Pony and Gracie and will update with Gracie's progress in a few days.
